If you’re not sure what type of massage chair to get, you should definitely give Shiatsu massage chairs a try.
First, you may need to acquaint yourself with this fact. Shiatsu is an old form of Japanese therapy. It uses pressure on the finger and thumbs to promote the flow of positive energy to the body. Using anatomical plus physiological theories, Shiatsu has evolved through the years with various Western principles of anatomy and physiology.
Shiatsu massage chairs are items that give you a sample of Shiatsu therapy. They are best recommended for those who have recurring back pain and soreness in the muscles. A session in a Shiatsu massage chair likewise can promote calmness of the mind and body. It can also relieve depression and stress, as well as promote flexibility and positive thoughts.
The principles preached by Shiatsu have only gained popularity in recent years. Shiatsu massage chairs apply these principles with current technology and impressive functionality. The product tries to capture the true massage promoted by Shiatsu. There are other features too like body scanning technology, as well as an adjustable level of intensity that can allow an individual to change the intensity according to his preference and tolerance.
Shiatsu massage chairs allow a person to experience the many benefits of the therapy at the comforts of their home. The technique can likewise be experience by a person fully clothed. And since Shiatsu massage chairs are right at the comforts of home, any person can enjoy its many benefits as regularly as he wishes.

What’s more, Shiatsu massage chairs are manufactured out of good quality material. Most are leather upholstered, which is normally the most expensive. There is also synthetic leather upholstering which is proven to be more durable, or vinyl upholstering which is not the most stylish but is a lot easier to maintain.
Shiatsu massage chairs are among the various types of massage chairs now prevalent in the market. Most of these massage chairs are power assisted. They can also be reclined, with the leg and back areas both at the same time. Some brands can be controlled wirelessly, while some have separate electrical controls for foot and back rest. Most of these massage chairs too are between 20 to 22 inches in width, while at least 17 inches in depth. This helps the user determine if he can fit in the seats. The depth of the chair alters the leg length, thus people who have short legs can only us the leg rest function when they are upright especially if the chair is too deep for them. Other brands of massage chairs can the person 6 inches from the chair, which means it can bring pain especially if your muscles are tight. Pads are provided to cushion the massage. There is also a massage chair that focuses on vibration massage which is more relaxing, however the technique does not exactly get toxins out of the person’s system.
In choosing for massage chairs, choose the unit that can accommodate wider individuals. Normally units can adjust their space from 2 to 4 inches. Buy massage chairs that can adjust the massage function to a specific area of the back. Likewise, choose from the speed options in the massage chair. Some combine tapping and kneading, the more advanced versions provide forward as well as reverse directional controls.
Indeed, shiatsu massage chairs can be very good investments for those wanting to enjoy a relaxing moment in their homes. Tired and stressed out professionals will appreciate the health benefits of these massage chairs. There are also other kinds of massage chairs that prove to be very good long term investments considering how they provide relaxation at home and spare individuals from expensive, frequent trips to the spa. So why not give these massage chairs a try, and see for yourself how relaxed and calm you can be right at the comforts of your home.
A few years ago, I was getting ready for a piano performance, and putting in four to six hours of practice every day. I started to get a strange pain in my forearm as I played, but I kept ignoring it. In a couple of weeks, it grew into a stabbing pain all the way from my wrist, through my arm, up over my shoulder and down to my shoulder blade. It started hurting all the time, whether I was playing or not. It got so bad that I had to turn down performance offers and eventually I stopped playing altogether.
I went to doctor after doctor, physical therapists, neurologists, and anyone else who might have some idea how to fix me. Nothing worked, and it was miserable. I couldn’t play the piano, washing my hair was painful, and I couldn’t even shift gears in the car. I had no idea how much I depended on my arm, and had to start sifting through activities by whether or not it would irritate my shoulder and make the pain worse. After a few months, it became clear that the pain was originating from a trigger point right near my shoulder blade, and when that acted up, all I could do was take some pain medication and beg someone to massage my arm.
Eventually, someone recommended I go to a shiatsu massage therapist. From the first session, I could tell I was on to something. After two sessions, the pain was no longer always present, and it only came back if I did something to directly cause it, like playing the piano, unfortunately.
Shiatsu massage originated in Japan, and is a traditional hand-pressure therapy, meaning it is known for applying pressure only with the fingers, palms and thumbs. According to the Japanese Ministry of Health, It was created for the purpose of correcting the imbalances of the body, and for maintaining and promoting health.
The real essence of shiatsu massage is “Diagnosis and Therapy combined.” This is the highly developed ability of practitioners to sense disharmonies in the energies of the body, and to then correct these problems.
Now, the money tree in my backyard stopped producing a few years ago, so I wasn’t exactly in a position to pay for a massage every week to keep the pain at bay. Luckily, someone in the world loves people like me, and found a way to put the skill of a shiatsu massage therapist’s fingers into a massage chair.
Now, at first I thought they were kind of tacky. Then I sat in one. And I never wanted to get out. It really is like having a massage therapist on call, in your home. And it definitely beats wasting time in waiting rooms and counting down the days until the next appointment. And, if you’re really in a time crunch, you can get work done while you get a massage (although I prefer to use that time to fall asleep or read that great book that’s been eluding me for months).
It’s a wonderful chance for me to sit down and relax, before starting the day or at the end of it. After about the first week of having my massage chair, it more than paid for itself in the time I spent using it. Not only that, but I am pain free! I still can’t play the piano for very long at a time, but at least I am not in constant pain. A big part of it is that I’m much more relaxed, so my muscles aren’t always trying to gang up on me. Whether or not you have a specific pain you are focused on relieving, or you just have the general stress of daily life, I would definitely recommend looking into shiatsu massage chairs.
Personally, I’m a fan of the choices HoMedics and Omega offer. You can get everything from a cushion to place in a chair you already have, or (incredibly comfortable) chairs that actually look classy, not like the ridiculous massage chairs of the past.
Shiatsu massage chairs are the perfect way to relax and alleviate pain without having to go to a masseuse or pay 0 an hour.
A star in the Texas Hill Country firmament
AUSTIN, Texas — It was a cool October night, and the sky, far from the city lights, was splattered with stars. But the brightest object in the heavens, aside from a three-quarter moon, was not a star at all, but the planet Jupiter. Meliá Bali Villas & Spa Resort Introduces Deluxe, Family and Executive Suites
(PRWEB) May 2, 2004
Meliá Bali Villas & Spa Resort has completed Phase II of dramatic room embellishment, bringing on line two Executive Suites, three Family Suites connecting and six Deluxe suites in a new room category. This completes the renovation program that began last year, with 350 completely renovated Superior Rooms and split level Junior Suites introduced last November. Designs were carried out by Lina Wiyanti, PT Suryalaya Anindita International, Jakarta.
Family Suite
Two existing rooms were joined to create the new accommodation category, creating a spacious and comfortable environment catering to families. Separate entrances open into a twin bedded room and the lounge. Platform beds are draped in snowy white duvets and throw pillows match richly woven runners, which conveniently hang on the wall at night. All bedside tables remain uncluttered, with powerful reading lamps swinging from the side for directional lighting. Touch-panels control lighting, music and temperature.
In the adjacent Grand master room, the four-poster bed is wrapped in decorative netting. A dressing room with a separate vanity has a spacious walk-in closed. The bathroom takes on an open feel, with corner walls facing onto the bedroom wrapped in decorative, three-dimensional slats backed with frosted glass. The marbled bath includes a tub with shower.
The lounge provides expanded living and entertainment space, with a dining area, wet bar space with contained mini-bar, half-bath and a convertible sofa bed aside an oversized, cushioned ottoman combined with a versatile, portable table. Ceiling to floor mirror panels enhance the expansive feel. Living space is enhanced with spacious garden-view balconies with day bed and lounge furnishings for maximum enjoyment.
The Deluxe Suite parallels the Family Suite, without the twin-bedded room.
Executive Suite
A new level of elegance comes with the two-bedroom Executive Suite. A private entrance corridor opens into a marble foyer that flows into the lower-level dining area. Here, the wood-paneled ceiling is accented by drop lighting. An elegant dining table seats six in plush moss and gold tone captain chairs. The enclosed kitchenette features a full-size refrigerator and black marble counter tops. Adjacent is a marbled guest toilet.
The inviting living room overlooks a wrap-around balcony. The spacious patio is fitted with a day bed for massage or relaxation, along with lounges and a cocktail table, perfect for in-room breakfast or sundown cocktails. Roman blinds and brass wall decor accent the comfortable area, which features a new 29-inch television entertainment system.
The lower-level master bedroom is dominated by a romantic canopy bed. A window box with a day bed is perfect for relaxation while overlooking the garden. Japanese-influenced paper lighting fixtures brighten the rich, wood paneled environment. Touch-panels control lighting, music and temperature. Dual closets contain an oversized safety box. The marbled bath has dual vanities with an expansive mirror and a Jacuzzi tub with shower. A separate shower stall and bidet with toilet complete the facilities.
A wooden staircase wraps around a decorative, stone-finished column, leading to the loft bedroom. Here, the attic atmosphere lends charm to the quarters with a study-style sitting area. Highly polished wooden floors and wall panels add a cozy touch. Bedside touch-panels control lighting, music and temperature. The private marble bathroom has a single vanity, tub with shower and separate toilet and bidet. Twin beds are fixed with directional reading lamps. Dual closets make this a perfect twin-share. The upstairs mini-bar and television make this a self-contained unit.

The Roxbury Offers the Grooviest Lodging “Trip” East of…Mars
Roxbury, NY (PRWEB) July 17, 2007
Seen from the distance, The Roxbury looks like a stately country establishment, tucked in one of the most rural corners of New York’s Catskill Mountains. But look closer and you will notice the chartreuse green doors with black trimmings and from there it becomes clear that this is not your typical lodging choice – something very different is going on here. The Roxbury, which has been offering a finely tuned luxury boutique hotel experience for two years, has spent the past year building some stylistically rich rooms and suites unlike any other pads on the planet.
What sets The Roxbury apart is its brand new theatrically designed theme rooms, suites and spa each loosely inspired by an iconic American film, TV show or cartoon from the 60′s and 70′s. The Roxbury offers the relaxation and escape factor you long for in the Catskills, with a luxurious design and visual richness that makes no compromises. Extraordinary is an understatement!
First a Little Bit of History and “The Inspiration”…It all started with “The Shagadelic,” an aptly named suite in the original Roxbury. Gregory Henderson and Joseph Massa, the hotel’s co-owners and proprietors, went all out with bright orange and yellow accents, a furry zebra couch, and other accoutrements worthy of an Austin Powers sequel.
Guests responded so positively to the “cool factor” that Henderson and Massa decided to undergo a major expansion that takes off in several retro-chic directions and doubles The Roxbury’s size. The result is a series of hotel rooms and suites with unique elements that give each room its own ‘wow factor.’ Each of the recently unveiled new rooms and suites, plus the state-of-the-art “Shimmer Spa,” not only has oodles of style and comfort that rival many of the world’s boutique hotels, but also a real sense of design adventure and fun.
“It is not just a place to stay while you enjoy the beautiful Catskills, but a full-blown entertainment experience of its own,” says Henderson. He and Massa, in fact, come to the hotel business by way of theater, as actors and producers. “We spent years writing, directing, designing, and producing shows together and Joseph always built dramatic and sometimes fantastical stage settings: his knowledge and instincts were critical in bringing the rooms’ décor and original design elements together. He is able to almost read my mind when I explain a new design concept or piece of craftsmanship that I feel a room needs. There’s nothing typical about The Roxbury: each room exudes its own carefully crafted ambience; we strived to make every single suite a groovy place to stay!”
Here’s what they mean.
Genie’s Bottle is a spacious two-bedroom suite constructed with the signature arabesque curves of Persian architecture and art and decorated with custom-made cheetah-print sofas, rich silk damask-patterned settees, and “Victoria’s Ghost” Phillipe Starck chairs. The “crown jewel” of the suite (and the whole expansion) is a perfectly spherical purple and gold luxurious bottle-shaped bathroom with a 70-gallon Japanese soaking tub at its center. The “genie’s bottle” is not simply curved marble walls, but a perfectly engineered sphere, a childhood fantasy now come to life in grownup fashion as a cozy, pillow-strewn djinn’s den.
The adjoining suite, George’s Space Pad, is furnished with bright space-age orange, Lucite, and chrome chairs and a cherry red chromatherapy bathtub and sink that actually illuminate from within. Specially manufactured in Italy, the Space Pad tub and sink illustrate how an entire room can be built around a “riff” on one key design element. Fred’s Lair has an 11′ tall pebblestone shower and bathroom area, bed throws made of seven different kinds of faux fur and mirrors made of driftwood collected from the beach on the Cornish coast of England. Co-owner Joseph Massa painstakingly sculpted the rocky interior of this room for more than two months.
The Mod Pod is the epitome of 1960/70s groove with its artichoke-shaped chandeliers, flower-power artwork, and swirling yellow, green and orange wallpaper reminiscent of Rowan and Martin’s “Laugh-In.” Golightly-A-Go-Go, with its black velvet and crunched silver foil wallcoverings, Tiffany-blue accent walls, crystal chandeliers, and rich cherry wood molding, is an elegant tribute to the iconic Truman Capote character and Audrey Hepburn’s classic performance.
The Partridge Nest, with its bright blue, yellow and red 3D wallscape and pop-art glass mosaic tilework, is a reincarnation of the famous Mondrian-inspired bus. Samantha’s Cloud is light and airy, with sparkling silver glitter-glass mosaic tile and a cloud mural that spans the entire ceiling and most of the walls, created by mural artist, Chris Kanienberg
“In designing the rooms, our goal was not only to make the guest’s primary response a smile of delight – or maybe even a jaw drop or two – but also to create an environment of pampering comfort. They are meant to exude what we call “whimsical elegance,” Massa emphasizes. “It’s been over a year in the works and it is finally done and ready for guests. Many of these one-of-a-kind elements were created or discovered by our staff. Our manager, Leslie Black, crafted her own custom designed lampshades, drapes and throw pillows and combed the Internet with the tenacity of her Scotties for the perfect accessories. Joseph not only supervised the construction process, he was also a man of all trades. The Mondrian masterpiece in the Partridge Nest took him three months of excruciating patience and a small fortune in masking tape,” says Gregory.
Amenities Abound in These Super Cool Rooms…All rooms and suites include wireless Internet, a refrigerator, microwave, coffee machine, A/C, 100% Egyptian cotton linens, telephones with voicemail, luxury ‘Lather’ bathroom amenities, locally hand-made body soaps, state-of-the-art flat screen TVs with DVD players and access to a DVD collection of over 400 DVD’s, mood lighting on dimmers, fresh flowers, Godiva chocolates, double-pillow top mattresses, one-of-a kind chandeliers, and an extensive continental breakfast served every morning along with snacks throughout the day.
Also new at The Roxbury is The Shimmer Spa – a small oasis for guests that is just as imaginative and luxurious as the new rooms. Thousands of sparkling iridescent mosaic tiles surround the professional sports caliber hot tub, a dry sauna, a fireplace, and a shower made of black river rock that massages a person’s feet as he or she takes a shower. The new 900 square foot upper deck at The Roxbury is furnished with comfortable chaise lounges and sectional “conversation area” couches. The custom-built fire pit with flames dancing through chartreuse aquatel glass crystals enables guests to enjoy the spectacular landscape at sunset even on those cool Catskills evenings. There is also an enclosed breezeway to enjoy the view, where continental breakfast is served all year. And for those true design enthusiasts, there is a Chihuly-inspired chandelier commissioned by Henderson and Massa to hang in the exterior stairwell. The 4′ x 6′ creation is comprised of 3,000 12-inch glowing plexiglass “rods” that had to be individually heated to 310 degrees in order to make them pliable enough to tie into knots all over the chandelier’s frame.
For those seeking the comfort of more conventional accommodations, a number of “classic” rooms and suites are available from stylish “comes-with-kitchenette” rooms to cozy studios. The Upstairs Downstairs suite takes up the entire upstairs level of the main house, with two separate bedrooms and a sitting room. Although more traditional, this large space retains The Roxbury flare for contemporary design.

Canada’s Best Spas 2009 From Spa Industry Journalist Anne Dimon and Traveltowellness.com
Toronto (PRWEB) March 6, 2009
http://www.traveltoWellness.com announces its 2009 top spa picks in Canada.
Anne Dimon veteran spa industry journalist, seasoned travel writer and publisher/editor of http://www.traveltowellness.com says the Best Spas Canada list was introduced three years ago in response to the question most frequently asked by her readers: “So, what’s the best spa?” While the term ‘best’ is, and will always be, subjective, Dimon says, “it’s a label that consumers will continue to seek out and respond to.”
According to the recently released 2008 Global Consumer Study by U.S.- based ISPA (the International Spa Association) Canadian spa-goers visit a spa about three times a year. The survey says the number one treatment in Canada is massage (74 per cent), followed by mani/pedi, facial, body scrub or wrap and reflexology. Sixty per cent of people surveyed said the primary reason for visiting a spa was to relax and relieve/reduce stress.
Regardless of the treatment or the reason(s) behind a spa visit, “consumers are always looking for the best value and the best spa experience,” says Anne Dimon.
Here, (listed from east to west), are five of eight brand new Best Spas Canada categories for 2009. The complete 33-category list of Canada’s best spas – including Most Unusual Spa Treatment – is posted at http://www.traveltowellness.com/bestspascanada.
Best new “green” day spa – Infinima, Ste. Foy, Quebec
At Infinima, located in Ste Foy (about a 15-minute drive from Old Quebec City), the owners have introduced leading edge “green” practices and protocols. For instance, LED lighting throughout reduces the energy impact and a “smart” heating system controls the heating and cooling of rooms automatically. The system is so “smart,” we’re told, that it “steals” heat from an area that is too warm and delivers it to an area that is too cold. To reduce waste they give reusable plastic bottles to clients to fill from a purified water system. We also loved the décor, which includes a three-level re-circulating water feature in a natural stone-wrapped circular staircase flooded with therapeutic coloured LED lights.
Most Exotic Outdoor Experience – Ofuro, Morin-Heights, Quebec
Drenched in a Japanese theme – pagoda-style architecture, Japanese art, furnishings and sculptures are everywhere – Spa Ofuro is Canada’s most uniquely-decorated and exotic “nature” spa.
To the sounds of a mountain stream cascading over boulders, guests breathe in the fresh air and soak up the benefits of nature from one of several pools, from lounge chairs set out on various decks or while snuggling in a swaying hammock. Unlike many such spas that offer only massages, Ofuro’s full menu of spa services including the more exotic Satori (colour energy therapy), a Japanese-style hammam and, of course, Shiatsu.
Best New “Alternative” Therapy – Holtz Spa, Ottawa
Holtz Spa’s new Spirit of the Forest – Vibrational Healing Experience is a unique 80-minute experience involving the vibrational resonance of the essences of Canadian trees. Following the lineage of Bach Flower Remedies, tree essences are believed to have special healing qualities that speak to emotional well-being and vitality.
The treatment includes a verbal and vibrational assessment, then a selection of an appropriate tree essence (or combination of several), a natural dry brushing over the entire body, a misting, a gentle massage, an energy balancing ritual and a relaxing tree essence beverage post treatment.
Best Country Charm – Spa at the Inn on the Twenty, Jordan Village Niagara, Ontario
Nestled on the tiny, perfect main street of the teeny town of Jordan, just a few steps from the hotel lobby and housed in its own historically-designated building, is the Spa at Inn on the Twenty.
The definitive “country cottage feel” is created with the help of furnishings and fixtures including beautifully-preserved golden pine floors, an antique pine door framing a mirror in the change room, a black iron fireplace in the lounge and inn-made biscotti in a cookie jar. There are country-style cupboards filled with retail
products in the reception area, and on the treatment beds – country quilts.
Best Hiking Program – Coastal Trek, Courtenay, (Vancouver Island), B.C.
The intimate, family-run Coastal Trek retreat, located in Vancouver Island’s Comax Valley, is all about health and hiking. From a selection of about 100 nearby hiking options, a different guided hike is scheduled each day based on the interests and fitness levels of guests. Structured programs include yoga sessions and healthy cooking classes.
While Coastal Trek is more about fitness and healthy eating than “spa-ing,” there are two spa treatment rooms on-site, and guests select from a limited menu of services.
The Travel to Wellness Best Spas Canada list is not the result of a “reader survey,” it’s not based on the number of online “hits” or “searches,” and it is not linked in anyway to advertising. It is the result of input from Canadian tourist boards and spa associations, and Dimon’s own travels across the country researching stories such as the December ’08 cover feature on Canadian spas for Singapore-based Spa Asia Magazine.
